Since Linda wanted the automobile right now, I crawled away from bed at 04.00 and drove via the daybreak (and a wonderful moonset!) to Buckenham, looking for the pair of Black-winged Stilts that had been reported the earlier night. Evidently, there was no signal of the Stilts, nor any Wooden Sandpipers both: simply the standard marsh and reedbed species. Plenty of Cuckoos, although, each at Buckenham and Strumpshaw. Nonetheless a couple of Wigeon and loads of Avocets at Buck: it was good to speak with ‘weblog reader’ Mike from Norwich… Not a lot else on provide on the Fen: no Barn Owls, however two booming Bitterns and some Widespread Terns.
