A fantastic day trip with Brian and Norman, beginning in Bishop’s earlier than transferring to the Centre Hides. On the way in which we noticed a distant falcon fly south: all of us thought it appeared fairly good for Purple-footed… Avocet Disguise produced a flock of ten or extra Cattle Egrets, in addition to a really confiding Little Ringed Plover. (A juvenile Sedge Warbler did a satisfactory impersonation of an Aquatic Warbler!) A big flock of Black-tailed Godwits contained an orange-tagged chicken and a single Bar-tailed Godwit. After espresso we carried out a half hour sea watch on the Coastguards, being entertained by Little, Sandwich and Widespread Terns.
With threatening clouds closing in we headed inland to Hickling, the place an obliging Swallowtail and quite a few Hobbies have been good to see. Different birds included Spoonbill and Nice Egret. (We have been trapped in Bittern Disguise for half an hour by a very energetic thunder storm!)
