With dangerous climate forecast for after lunch, Brian, Norman and I made a decision to maintain it native with a stroll round Hickling NWT Reserve. First cease was the ‘Mound’ on the west finish of Brandon’s Marsh: nothing a lot on the open water, however the first of seven Nice White Egrets flew low overhead.
We carried on eastward in the direction of Stubb Mill, selecting up Black-tailed Godwit, Ruff, Dunlin, Greenshank and 6 extra GWEs on the best way. From the raised space on the different finish of the marsh I attempted to {photograph} some Spoonbills on their nest: they had been impossibly far-off! A smallish pale raptor glided in and perched within the subsequent tree: if final week’s uncommon customer hadn’t decamped south I’d marvel if this may need been hen of the day! It is exhausting to suppose what it might have been…
Returning to the mound, I seen a big raptor over in the direction of Hickling Broad: an Osprey! Though it by no means got here shut, we loved watching it being harrassed by a Marsh Harrier earlier than it lastly discovered some peace and quiet.
The remainder of the circuit added Hooded Crow, Crane and Passion to the day’s tally, earlier than we moved to Latham’s for espresso.
