With an opportunity of a transparent japanese horizon, I crawled off the bed at 03.30 and drove out to the highest of the Heath. The goal was the snappily-named Comet C/2025 R3 PANSTARRS, which had seemingly brightened to fifth magnitude. Nonetheless, it’s at the moment within the constellation of Pegasus, very low within the East earlier than daybreak, so a skinny veil of cloud did not enhance prospects. A break within the haze at round 04.30 revealed the suitable area of Pegasus, and allowed considerably unimpressive views of my twenty seventh comet! (I’ve added pictures of Cygnus, the Plough – and its well-known binary stars Alcor & Mizar – and Capella, to show how poor the ‘seeing’ was!)
