Day two started with a post-breakfast run to Bempton. Regardless of a protracted stroll and cautious scrutiny of each ‘tweet’ we encountered, Corn Bunting nonetheless proved to be elusive. After espresso we headed again to Flamborough for a stroll round Thornwick Swimming pools. Sadly none of final week’s uncommon migrants had held on for us, and all we managed had been a number of frequent species. We did, nevertheless, meet an area knowledgeable (an ex-BOU committee member) who gave us the gen we wanted: a location for Corn Bunting!
A brief drive discovered us strolling up the bizarrely-named Hoddie Cow Lane: a terrific slice of outdated England, with thick hedgerows and plenty of birds. In a half-hour ramble we discovered two, presumably three Corn Buntings in addition to a number of pairs of Yellowhammers.
After ice lotions at Flamborough we headed again to Cameron Courtroom to chill out earlier than dinner.
