I used to be briefly up and about at 03.30 this morning (as many gents of my age are typically) and occurred to look at my PC monitor: it was – as regular – displaying the ‘Aurora Watch UK’ exercise display screen. To my amazement, it was lit up purple and orange – indication of robust auroral exercise.
I grabbed my digital camera and went out onto the patio: as you might need predicted, the sky was lined by a veil of skinny hazy cloud. Trying to the north, I may, nevertheless, see just a few stars. I took a few lengthy exposures (no tripod, I am afraid!) at excessive ISO: you’ll be able to simply make out some inexperienced and purplish patches.
I did attempt once more an hour or so later, however the sky was utterly lined by then…
