After the same old 07.15 begin, birthday boy Norman, Brian and I drove via the daybreak to Cley, the place we began the day with a seawatch: nothing to report, so we moved to Bishop’s. The primary function was an enormous flock – 150+ – of Avocets, which included a single Ruff. A stroll to the ocean and again was adopted by tea and scones: we determined to offer Warham Camp a miss, having been advised that the Lesser WFs have been fairly distant, heading west to Titchwell as a substitute.
The tide was proper out, however the uncovered mussel beds had attracted a lot of Brent Geese and some waders: Oystercatchers, Curlews, Sanderling and, better of all, a few Gray Plovers. Driving again to Cley, we stopped at Stiffkey for shut views of the Shiny Ibis (however failed to identify the reported Lesser Whitefronts!) Final goodie was a dinky little Siberian Chiffchaff within the fir bushes above Walsey Hills: and so house!
