Paul – one among our oldest associates – makes an annual pilgrimage to Norfolk to search for Swallowtail butterflies. He lives three hours away from these scarce and interesting creatures, whereas there are two glorious areas inside half an hour of our entrance door!
First cease was Strumpshaw Fen, the place a stroll across the typical areas proved unfavourable: we determined to maneuver on to Hickling NWT reserve, the place I might seen a pair yesterday. Since as we speak was cooler, we hoped for higher outcomes: in the long run we noticed only a single specimen, alongside the raised path to Whiteslea. Paul loved shut views of about fifteen Frequent Cranes, in addition to a number of Painted Girls and Furry Hawkers. A cup of tea, then a twenty minute drive again to Strumpshaw!
