Norman and I traveled north to Cley: the early morning mist quickly evaporated to go away mediterranean-style sea and sky. A small flock of Golden Plovers had been good to see, feeding nervously on the sting of the Eye Area. A short sea watch produced simply Guillemots and Razorbills, so we moved inland to Bishop’s. Virtually the primary birds we encountered had been two drake Mandarins – fairly uncommon at Cley: a few Water Rails scurried round, however would not pose for pictures!
A transfer to the Iron Highway produced nice views of a Lapland Bunting: it step by step crept nearer alongside the trail till it was just some yards away. Earlier than espresso we drove again to the Coastguards, the place (with the type assist of two CBC members) we ultimately managed to see a distant juvenile Black Guillemot.
Again to the VC for espresso and scones (and a fly-over Raven!) earlier than a stroll alongside the East Financial institution: nothing to report, so an early return residence.
