Norman, Brian & I made a decision it was time to look in on the standard suspects, beginning early at Weeting Heath. I say early, however apparently the one pair of Stonies had their chicks predated a fortnight in the past and have abandoned the nesting space. Such a disgrace to see the guests’ centre completely closed down…
We moved on to Lakenheath Fen, the place a seven mile stroll spherical gave us cheap views of three or 4 Bitterns, half a dozen Hobbies, numerous Cuckoos and a distant Shiny Ibis (Which Brian discovered, to the delight of the Vols!)
We rounded off the day with a stroll up- and downstream of the roadbridge at Santon Downham: no signal of any Gray Wags or Mandies.
